Side trail of the main Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrimage route.

Pilgrims can hike around the Steinhuder Meer from Loccum Monastery on this trail. The trail leads via Mardorf (north shore) to Mariensee Monastery and via Steinhude (south shore) back to Loccum. The two monasteries are linked by visitations in the 15th and 16th centuries. The landscape to the left and right of the trail is characterized by meadows and moorland as well as northwest Germany's largest inland sea, which can be admired from the foothills of the Rehburg Mountains.

Safety information:

  • No guarantee is given for the usability of the paths
  • In the towns/villages, increased attention is generally required
  • On the tour, you must expect to encounter danger spots, such as bollards, barriers and unsecured crossings
