Weser Renaissance
The Renaissance style of architecture experienced a special development in the Weser region during the 16th and 17th centuries. No other European region saw more buildings constructed in this characteristic style than the Weser area during that time. Typical features include Utlucht (overhanging upper stories), decorative quoining, boss stones, and the Welsch gable. Generally, representative buildings were constructed using stone and half-timbered techniques, then plastered and painted in vibrant colors. The sandstone used comes from quarries in Obernkirchen in the Schaumburg Land.
