Whether sporty or comfortable, whether small or large - in the Middleweser region there is an extensive cycle path network that leads through the expanse of the North German Plain. There are no mountains here, but numerous cycling routes that are fun for the whole family. An area-wide signposting system makes orientation easy and points the way to tourist destinations along the route. Themed routes under the motto "Bike & Learn" such as the Dino-Tour, the Stork route, the Counts Circle, the Church route or the Wolves Tour promise a wide variety for everyone. For each tour the topics are presented on the information boards and objects and sights along the route are explained.

You can also experience the Middleweser region on foot: For centuries, people have set out for religious reasons to make a pilgrimage. They want to distance themselves from bad habits and from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and at the same time find a way to discover themselves. But hiking is also very popular. The landscape forms of the Middle Weser region are diverse: wide Geestlands with beautiful forests and colorful fields, extensive moorland and heathland determine the landscape. Moors are mined for peat and then wetted again, creating lake landscapes. Calm and idyllic, these near-natural nooks are ideal for relaxing in, and at the same time the flora and fauna are exciting to observe.

The Weser Cycling Route

Cycle routes from the Weser Uplands to the North Sea: fantastic stages

The Weser Cycle Route is the most popular bike path in Germany (ADFC Cycling Analysis 2024). It stretches over 500 km from Hannoversch Münden in southern Lower Saxony up to Cuxhaven in the north. The path was awarded four stars by the ADFC as a quality bike route!

The first stage is the Upper Weser, where the Weser Uplands offer a variety of highlights. In addition to a unique river landscape with castles and palaces, you will experience legendary half-timbered towns. Meet the Pied Piper in Hameln or the lying Baron Münchhausen in Bodenwerder.

The Weser cycle path leads through the unique nature of the Middle Weser region.

Shortly before Minden, Porta Westfalica opens the doors to the Weser in the North German Plain. The Middle Weser here lays its course through wide, only slightly hilly country with moor, heath, lush meadows and fertile fields. Picturesque villages, scattered farms and numerous windmills characterize the landscape.
