Nestled between two hills and surrounded by whispering woodland, Romantik Bad Rehburg is one of the best-preserved royal spa complexes from the Romantic era in Germany. Its origins date back to 1690, when the healing properties of its springs were first recorded. Between 1750 and 1850, the spa – once affectionately called the “Hanoverian Madeira” – became a fashionable retreat for the aristocracy and members of the Hanoverian royal family seeking both health and recreation. During this period, the site was transformed into an elegant spa resort, complete with bathhouses, hotels, a pump room, a chapel and a beautifully landscaped park with scenic promenades and viewpoints. Today, the ensemble impresses with its harmonious architecture and timeless charm. Highlights include the early Neoclassical New Bathhouse from the late 18th century, the glazed colonnaded promenade hall from 1843, the graceful Friederike Chapel and the historic spa park with its 34 kilometres of forest paths through the Rehburg Hills. In the New Bathhouse, twelve former bathing cabins have been reimagined into an interactive museum showcasing themes of wellness, Romanticism and spa culture. Visitors can explore historical exhibits, enjoy romantic poetry and music at audio stations or experiment in the small "spa laboratory" dedicated to water and wellness. Changing art exhibitions, cultural events and guided tours keep the spirit of the era alive throughout the year. The Tourist Information of Rehburg-Loccum is located in the promenade hall, offering visitor materials, souvenirs and local insights, while the historic setting also provides a charming venue for weddings set amidst romantic gardens.
