Skulptur „Anfang und Ende“ (Pilgermal)

The sandstone pilgrimage monument was dedicated on July 4, 2000, in connection with the EXPO 2000 World’s Fair. The Volkenroda-Loccum pilgrimage route (approx. 350 kilometers) was inaugurated that same year.

Seven columns symbolize a wheel: Three columns and half of the ring are located in Loccum, while four columns and the other half of the ring are located in Volkenroda, Loccum’s mother monastery in Thuringia. The parts of the sculpture in both locations mark the “Youth Pilgrimage Route 2000” between Volkenroda and Hanover. The sculpture represents the past, present, and future.
