The circular tour shows Achim's rural side with fields and farmland.

Way description:
The hiking trail starts at the parking lot in "Zeppelinstraße" and leads you through a small wood via "Alter Heerweg" to the Borstel district (1). Turn left at the junction towards "Borsteler Hauptstraße". Cross the "Borsteler Hauptstraße" and continue along the "Borsteler Weg". At the first junction, turn right through the fields until the path ends in Emsholz. Turn left here and follow the path. You will pass the Emsholz ponds (2). At the crossroads, walk straight ahead and take the next path on the left. Now continue through the fields and farmland until you reach a fork and take the paved path on the right. You now reach the "Schaphuser Weg", which you turn left onto. Stay on the path until you turn left again at "Radekampsweg". Via the street "Im Labusch" you come back to "Borsteler Hauptstraße", which you cross a second time. You now walk along "Claus-v.-d.-Decken-Straße" past the Graft estate (3). Then turn left onto the narrow, relatively inconspicuous path at the end of the wood (4). Through the forest, you will return to "Zeppelinstraße" and thus to the starting point of your hike.

Sightseeing/interesting facts:

(1) Borstel:
The municipality of Borstel was politically independent until the end of 1928, but from January 1929 it was incorporated into the municipality of Achim as a district. Unmistakable by its tall wind turbines, Borstel has retained its rural character to this day. On an area of 577 hectares, there are green pastures with grazing cows and several farms. In keeping with the pithy motto "Borstel, where else?", there is a lively village community with festive activities. It is said that even today there is still a great deal of emphasis on neighborly help. You can still find plots of land that are connected to the nearest neighbor by a gate in the hedge.

(2) Emsholzteiche:
The Emsholzteiche are a standing body of water in the Geest. Different plant species thrive depending on the water depth. The bank widens into an extensive meadow, with cattails, reeds and rushes at the edge providing a typical habitat for wetland inhabitants. On quiet days, grey herons, cormorants and other water birds can be seen foraging. Together they form a mosaic of numerous biotopes with all the diversity of their inhabitants. The abundance of flowers in summer in particular attracts numerous butterflies, dragonflies and other insects. The ponds have been designated as a protected area for many years.

(3) Gut Graft:
The origins of the village of Borstel go back to the establishment of a manor (laid out as a moated castle) by the noble von Mandelsloh family in the 16th century. Inheritances, purchases and sales, bankruptcies etc. led to repeated divisions. However, the foundation always remained the original estate. The von Mandelsloh family must have been very influential, as the northern cross arm of St. Laurentius Church is called the "Mandelsloh Chapel". There have been many owners of the estate over the course of history. In 1846, district judge Diedrich Nicolaus von der Decken bought the estate. It is still owned by this family today.
Around the estate, some small farmers leased a few pieces of land for their own cultivation, in return for which they had to carry out certain work for the estate manager and pay some of their earnings to the estate. These small farmers were called Kötner because their dwellings were called Katen.

(4) Deckensche Holz:
The Deckensche Holz is partly an old beech forest and forms the remnant of a typical forest of the Geest, but mighty oaks can also be found here. If you look closely, you will find woodpecker cavities in the thick trunks of the old trees, which are occupied by titmice, nuthatches and bats. The extensive cultivation with numerous deadwood creates a now rare habitat for countless species of flora and fauna. In spring, the forest floor is covered with herbs such as shad-leaf while the canopy is still light. The forest belonged to the adjacent estate, which was used as a farm forest.

The tour can also be found at Komoot.
