In the rural Middle Weser region, you will find top-quality products from local cultivation. In numerous farm shops, you can purchase fresh products directly from the producer. And for those who are spontaneous, there are farm shop boxes at various locations – regional products are offered around the clock in refrigerated vending machines.

Nienburger asparagus

Asparagus cultivation has a long tradition in the Nienburg area, even though it has only been marketed under the registered quality seal "Nienburger Spargel" since 1996. The noble vegetable was already grown in the district around the turn of the century. With advances in technology, the cultivation area has increased dramatically over the years. Currently, over 1,000 hectares of asparagus are cultivated around Nienburg. In comparison to other regions in Germany, this makes it the 7th largest asparagus-growing area. In terms of popularity, Nienburger Spargel ranks 3rd nationally.

The excellent reputation of Nienburger Spargel is due to its quality. Strictly controlled cultivation and strict adherence to EU quality standards during sorting give consumers confidence. A license number allows for complete traceability back to the farm where it was grown. Taste-wise, Nienburger Spargel is characterized by its particularly delicate aroma. The reason for its refined flavor is the cultivation on light geest soils along the Weser River. Only asparagus grown here is allowed to be sold under the quality seal "Nienburger Spargel."

Blueberries

…also called "Bickbeern"

There are different names for the blue little fruits. From mid-June to September, everything in Brokeloh revolves around the "Dicken Blauen" (Big Blue). In late summer, around the small village with about 350 inhabitants, millions of blueberries ripen year after year. Visiting the Herse family’s farm café is especially worthwhile at that time. There, you can pick the berries yourself, and the Bickbeeren Café offers many varied dishes with blueberries: potato pancakes, pancakes, waffles, but also blueberry sausage or baked Camembert.
