On well-maintained and excellently marked bike paths through moors, forests, and meadows around Große Aue and the Weser River, you’ll “experience” pure relaxation. The wide range of dining options offers refreshments and sustenance at every stage of the route.

The starting and ending point is the market square in Steyerberg. Right at the start, you’ll pass through the historic center of Steyerberg, including Jacobi Island, the Aue Bridge, the Amtshof, and Meyersiek’s mill and sawmill. Passing the “Lebensgarten,” you’ll reach a vast forested area, the Januarsberg. The viewpoint there is worth a short detour.

The tour continues from the Januarsberg to Hesterberg; a side path in the forest leads to the war graves memorial. Beyond Hesterberg, the “Fichtendamm” trail—featuring information on peat extraction and restoration—takes you through the “Große Borsteler Moor.” Numerous oil pumps line the route, as oil has been extracted and processed in the Voigtei district since 1953. The tour leads back to Steyerberg via Eckershausen and Sarninghausen.
