Lebensgarten Steyerberg

Lebensgarten Steyerberg is one of the oldest and largest communities in Germany. Originally built in 1939 as a housing complex for forced laborers at a neighboring gunpowder factory, the site served various purposes after World War II. In 1985, Lebensgarten Steyerberg e.V. was founded. Since then, it has evolved into an inspiring place for communal living, learning, and personal transformation.

Numerous initiatives, educational projects, and events make the site a vibrant center for personal transformation:

• The School for Understanding and Mediation and the GFK Steyerberg e. V. Center: A training and meeting place for Nonviolent Communication (NVC), mediation, and an empathetic culture of conflict resolution and relationships
• Permaculture Park at Lebensgarten Steyerberg (PaLS): A place for learning and experiencing permaculture through community-supported agriculture and a diverse range of educational offerings
• CAIA Academy: A venue for seminars on personal development, consciousness-raising, and community experiences. Through retreats, workshops, and festivals, CAIA creates spaces for connection and transformation.
• Choka Sangha: A Zen temple serving as a spiritual place for meditation, mindfulness, permaculture, and regular sesshins

Lebensgarten Steyerberg welcomes everyone who would like to get to know this special place:

• Guided Tours: From April through November, guided tours of the grounds are typically held on the second Sunday of the month—a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history, visions, and projects of the Lebensgarten.
• Events & Dates: You can find current dates for seminars, workshops, and cultural events on the respective websites of the initiatives active here.
• Independent Exploration: Even outside of official events, you’re welcome to explore the Lebensgarten on your own. Guests are invited to take a respectful stroll through the village, enjoy the atmosphere, and let themselves be inspired.
