The line between Verden and Walsrode was opened on March 2, 1911. Passenger and freight services between Verden and Altenboitzen began on December 17, 1910, and three days later to Vorwalsrode. The railroad line contributed to the economic upswing of the region at the time.
The current association was founded in 1989. With a small fleet of historic vehicles (various diesel locomotives and passenger and freight wagons), the small railway line between Verden and Stemmen (11.8 kilometers in total) is operated by volunteers. The trains stop at historic stations.
