The signposted route begins at Langwedel town hall, where the fountain is a reminder that Langwedel was an important port of call for carters in earlier times.
Take Große Straße in the direction of Verden and after approx. 1.5 km turn left into Am Burgbad. Visit the Burgbad, which is open from May to September, at this historic location. Even out of season, you can see the remains of the walls of the once mighty bishop's castle (approx. 1222-1866) built on this site and an information board in the entrance area.
Past the soccer pitch and the war memorial, you will reach the Sandberg on the right via Quappenbruch, where the listed Langwedeler Häuslingshaus is located. Beyond the railroad tunnel, turn right towards Förth into Birkenallee, past the kindergarten and the district waste transfer station. From the small railroad crossing, you drive parallel to the American Line, which connects Uelzen with Bremen; emigrants used to travel on this route to the overseas ports.
The settlement of Nindorf was essentially built after the war, when refugees found a new home there. The private vehicle museum Drewes and the Heidschnucken sheep farm Hehmsoth are worth mentioning here. The route continues past Holtebüttel, where you can visit the open-air theater. The RWE-DEA Group produces natural gas here.
You now cycle through Schülingen and gently uphill past Overing: enjoy the distant view at the rest area, Bremen can be seen in good weather. Völkersen is your next destination; you can store in the farm store. Leave the village on Rotenburger Straße and turn left at the last house to Düvelshagen. Here you will find a large rest area with an information board. Continue straight on into the Spange state forest. At the next crossroads, turn left towards Haberloh or follow the sign for Forsthaus on the right and make a detour there (approx. 900 m with nature trail, barbecue area, forest playground).
Through a varied Geest landscape you reach Haberloh (only 34 inhabitants), which is characterized by agricultural breeding farms and a stud farm. Visit the farm café here! Now cycle south, turn right at the edge of the forest onto a quiet farm track to get back to Völkersen via Ottersberger Straße. Cycle along the green road between the sports fields and then turn right again towards Langwedelermoor. Here you will see a completely different side to the landscape, and if you feel like it, you can switch from bike to horse here.
Nature lovers should not miss the Kiebitzmoor biotope area. Now take Grasdorfer Straße, turn left and then right and follow a shady farm track, at the end of which you turn left. Shortly before the Giersbergsiedlung settlement, you will find the Schwedenschanze, an old fortification, somewhat hidden on the left. Cross under the highway and later the railroad and you are already in Etelsen. There are cozy rest stops in Bahnhofstraße. The Jan Wind windmill on the right and the Zum guten Hirten church on the left are both well worth a visit. Take Bremer Straße in the direction of Achim, then the castle and castle park invite you to linger. You also need to make a small detour if you want to visit the lock.
Continue cycling through the Wesermarsch to Grinden. Here you can take the ferry to the other bank of the Weser at weekends and on public holidays. But our circular route takes you in a wide arc on this side of the river to the Drosselhof campsite, where you can stop for a bite to eat. After you have refreshed yourself, you can admire the storks in their nests in Hagen, where the houses are built on Wurthen to be on the safe side, and reach the canal bridge through the typical marshland landscape.
At the landing stage, you can continue your tour by boat towards Bremen or Verden or you can travel from there to Daverden. The St. Sigismund Church with its organ, parts of which are by Arp Schnitger, is well worth a visit, as is the open-air stage in Daverdener Holz, before you return to the starting point.
