The building underwent significant alterations in 1842 and was still inhabited until 2000. It is located directly on the historic Langwedel mill stream, which once supplied the moats of the neighboring Bischofsburg (1222-1866) with water and powered the Langwedel water mill.
In 2008, the non-profit Langwedeler Kulturverein e.V. began its efforts to preserve the old, vacant half-timbered house, which served as a cottage until 1842 and was then a lean-to. After four years, restoration work began in 2012. The inauguration of the house, restored to its 1842 condition, was celebrated in October 2013.
The real treasures of this "typical" "kitchen niche house" lie inside the house. This two-storey house has a special, listed value because it differs from conventional houses with its flett, living room and utility room: On the higher transom towards the eastern eaves, only a batten can be recognized. From this area, a door led into the large parlor. It has been preserved in some form. The fireplace, presumably open at first, was located in the so-called kitchen alcove, the middle of three rooms in the "chamber compartment". At first, this room was still completely open to the hallway. The smoke escaped through the hallway and through a hatch in the gable, which can still be seen today. Later, the two adjoining rooms in the "Kammerfach" were heated from here by means of two back-loader stoves. One of the fire and smoke holes is still visible.
The main change made to the cottage in 1842 was the extension of the hallway in a southerly direction, i.e. towards the street. At the same time, a large hallway door was installed instead of the simple door.
The cultural association makes the house available for events and civil weddings and also offers guided tours for guests. Registrars from the municipality of Langwedel will arrange your ceremony individually for you and the Langwedeler Kulturverein e.V. will provide a personal ambience agreed with you. Afterwards, you and your guests can use the hallway and, in summer, the garden for a champagne reception.
On request, bridal couples can also immortalize their names on a metal plaque on an oak "wedding stele" in front of the large gate (Langwedel registry office tel. 04232-3991).
