Anyone driving through Langwedel on the main road will notice the "horse trough" in front of the town hall (built in 1988).
If the trip takes place on a warm summer's day, you can see children riding on the bronze horse, water running into the fountain from the old Schwengel pump, the Langwedel boys and girls playing with water and having great fun.

The question about the reason for the monument is easy to answer, because due to the construction of the town hall (Sept. 1986 - March 1988), the town hall forecourt was also to be decorated with a typical scene for the town, expressing the reference to Langwedel's history. The almost 800-year history of the village of Flecken Langwedel is characterized by its location on the historic trade and military route between Bremen and Celle, which was also the traditional link between the diocese of Verden and the archbishopric of Bremen. It was therefore no wonder that the Archbishop of Bremen, Gerhard II, had a castle built at this strategic location in around 1222, the remains of which survived until 1866.

With this historical background, it is clear that the Langwedel councillors chose a motif for the group of figures directly on the road that is reminiscent of the "travel and goods traffic" with horse and cart on the old trade route. The bronze sculpture from 1991 was created by Bremen sculptor Claus Homfeld.

There are public toilets in the town hall building.
