Why is there lightning during thunderstorms? How is electricity generated? What are renewable energies? How is biogas produced? What are energy crops? You will find answers to these questions when you cycle the Mittelweser Energy Discovery Route, the first of its kind in Germany.
The approx. 100 km long route is divided into a northern (43 km) and southern route (65 km) and connects different energy locations (no. 1-21), all of which have one thing in common: They prove that the use of renewable energies has long been commonplace in the Mittelweser region.
You can experience contributions to power supply and climate protection that have been put into practice. Wind and water energy is explained to you using historical wind and water mills through to state-of-the-art wind turbines.
Solar energy is explained using photovoltaic systems and the first solar filling station in Lower Saxony. Hydropower is used by damming the Weser (hydroelectric power plant in Drakenburg).
Block-type thermal power stations and biogas plants with different utilization concepts complete the picture.
The Energy Explorer Route can also be found at Komoot.
