The pedestrian bridge, which was put into operation in 2000, connects the city center with the district on the west bank at a historic location. The first wooden summer bridge stood at this old Weser crossing back in 1512 during the time of the Counts of Hoya. It had to be dismantled in winter due to ice drift.
The first stone Weser bridge was built on this site in 1717 as a donation from King George I of England. Until the end of the 19th century, this Weser crossing was the only one in the area. When a larger bridge was built a few hundred meters down the Weser, a first pedestrian bridge was built here in 1906, which was destroyed in the Second World War. The bridgeless state at this point lasted almost 60 years. Since 2000, the new pedestrian bridge has provided a crossing over the Weser.
