It was mentioned in church records as early as 1568 as "the sexton's dwelling" and, after several conversions (most recently in 1844), is part of the ensemble around St. Sigismund's Church. Until 1968, the house was used as a schoolhouse for many generations. Today it serves as a cultural and social meeting place, having been extensively renovated by the Verein für Kultur und Geschichte Daverden e.V.
