The archaeological, historical and botanical aspects of the village of Wellie on the edge of the Wesermarsch are highlighted on this circular hiking trail. The trail is marked with a 4,000-year-old bell beaker that was found on the site of a Wellie brickworks.
The hiking trail leads through the Wellie marsh along former clay mining areas with old oak, ash and field maple trees. A fork leads to the "Wellier Kolk", a former arm of the Weser with a bathing area.
Passing the old brickworks, the trail leads to the historic barn quarter with a rest area and an adventure playground. From there, the trail leads past the edge of the Neolithic "Wellier Erdwerk" - an approx. 6-hectare ditch dating back to the 4th millennium BC - to the boules court. There is a collection of plants with information on how they were used in the Neolithic period and by the Old Saxons in the early Middle Ages.
The route continues into the old village, past the Wellier chapel and old farmhouses. After crossing the main road, you reach the Wesermarsch and the alternative route of the Weser Cycle Path.
The tour can also be found at Komoot.
