The mill has been located on the "Große Aue" since 1298. At that time, the mill was used purely as a grain mill for grinding grain. In 1859, a sawmill was added to the grain mill, and the Aue now drove a total of four mill wheels. In 1913, the mill was extensively rebuilt and the water wheels were replaced by a turbine. After mill operations were discontinued in the 1970s, the turbine still runs today and generates electricity. The Energy Discovery Route runs past the mill. It is a tourist cycle path that includes locations that have to do with energy in the broadest sense. A fish ladder borders the watermill. With this project, the ecological continuity of the Große Aue was completely secured.
