Achim without borders, Egbert and Felix Broerken, 2022, bronze on stainless steel columns

The city model was commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of the territorial reform and was unveiled at the beginning of September 2022 as part of a "festival for all". The sculpture was made by the artists Egbert and Felix Broerken from Welver in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is made of bronze and measures around 2.60 m x 1.50 m. The city model was created without inner-city boundaries so that the city can be understood as "one Achim". It is intended to make Achim tangible and tangible. The model can be driven under with a wheelchair thanks to its substructure with three stainless steel columns. It also bears designations in Braille. In the spring beforehand, the residents of Achim were able to take part in an online survey to decide which buildings, squares and objects should be depicted to scale in the individual districts. As a result, a total of around 60 objects are highlighted larger in the model.

The project was realized with the help of the Lower Saxony funding program "Sofortprogramm: Perspektive Innenstadt".

The sculpture is located next to the Hungerbrunnen fountain on Bürgermeister-Rippich-Platz, which was inaugurated in September, right next to the Achim district court, Obernstraße 40.
