Artist: Christian Huba Sign at the foot of the sculpture: "The monument takes historical facts as an opportunity to show human nature. Cigar making was a skilled craft that was practiced in factories or at home with the whole family." In 1994, 24 artists took part in a competition to create a sculpture to commemorate the cigar trade. The Bremen sculptor Christian Huba was chosen. The "Cigar Maker" sculpture is officially unveiled on October 6, 1996. The cigar maker monument in front of the town hall and the "Cigar maker's room" exhibition in the town hall are reminders of the time when Achim was a stronghold of cigar production. The cigar maker's room was set up by the local history association in 2003 and displays items from the last Achim cigar maker, among other things.
