The noble Eickhof-Reitzenstein family resided in the castle until 1938. Since 2006, the castle has been home to a Zen monastery of the Rinzai lineage. It not only offers Zen exercises, but also courses and seminars. A Japanese garden designed by the owners surrounds the castle. The castle is home to the headquarters of the horticultural company Japan-Garten-Kultur and show gardens around it.
Next to Eickhoff Castle is a cemetery worth seeing, which was laid out in 1870. The grave slabs from the Liebenau church were later added there when the tombs were filled in.
