Two Bremen manufacturers "Dreyer" and "Prollius" set up one of the first Achim cigar factories here in 1853, taking advantage of the tax benefits of the Kingdom of Hanover. When Hanover joined the Customs Union the following year, several cigar factories were already benefiting from the customs advantage. During the Nazi dictatorship, there was a labor service camp and a Nazi kindergarten here and after the war a wholesale warehouse, which burned down in 1950. After the fire, the town received the building as a gift and converted it into a secondary school. It was later used by the elementary school and today primary school pupils study here.
