Sculpture
Hans-Jürgen Etzold, 1993, bronze
The memorial between the historic town hall building and the new building has the shape of a column that is broken open on one side. It appears as if the column has been damaged or destroyed. In the lower part of the 3.52 m high column, a kind of altar is indicated, with flames rising above it. Here, 56 names of Jewish victims from Verden and the places where they were murdered are inscribed.

The translation of the Hebrew inscription at the top of the memorial is from the 1st chapter of Jeremiah's Lamentations. The translation of the Hebrew inscription on the upper part of the memorial from the first chapter of Lamentations of Jeremiah, verse 12, means: "Look and see if there is any pain like the pain that was done to me"

The unveiling of the memorial took place on September 5, 1993 on the occasion of the second visit of the former Jewish citizens to Verden.
