Lugenstein (Platz und Findling)

Historical structure
Erratic boulder
The square at the beginning of the pedestrian zone not far from the cathedral and the erratic boulder there are known as the "Lugenstein".
The Lugenstein used to be an old court (Thingplatz) of the Saxons, a tribe that had not yet converted to Christianity by the end of the 8th century. Justice was dispensed on this court square.

Until the conquest by the Frankish king Charlemagne, Verden belonged to the Duchy of Saxony, the region was known as "Sturmigau" and Verden was located in the middle.
