Fassade Riekes Honigkuchenfabrik

Historical building
Rieke's honey cake factory was founded in 1862 by the baker Peter-Heinrich Rieke.
After 1910, the year in which the partner and independent baker Johannes Marschhausen joined the company, the honey cake bakery gradually developed into an industrial enterprise.
Until its closure in 1978 the company enjoyed a wide reputation beyond the Achim city limits.
The Achim monument to the Bremen Town Musicians in the "honey cake gable" shows a rooster, dog and cat above the two lower windows. The donkey was not immortalized as it had sunk the robbers' treasure in the well. A duck has been depicted in his place.
