Historical building
The Behrenhof should actually be called Frische(n)hof.

The country doctor and surgeon Gerhard Frische, who was famous far and wide during his lifetime, had the Niedersächsisches Hallenhaus built in 1700 as a four-column half-timbered building. The inscription in the architrave refers to the carpenter. At that time, in addition to the main house with a two-storey chamber compartment, there was also a barn, bakehouse, oil mill, granary and a so-called  "Tollhaus", presumably an infirmary.

The farm heiress and great-great-great-granddaughter Gerhard Frisches married the
tax collector Behr from Hoya in 1808. Since that time, the farm has borne his name. Gerhard Frische was an unusual man: a surgeon and a juggler, but not an innkeeper. He accommodated the sick who came to him on pilgrimage from far and wide for the time of healing in his house until they could make their way home in good health. He was also a churchwarden in the church at Lunsen, where he had his own hereditary burial place. The inscription on his tomb reads:  "The art and science that God has given me has brought me so far, that in this life I have cured 6000 in 2 times 20 years, according to my books number. Now I will be led to the grave."

"So death can conquer the doctor and art and bring them without resistance into black tombs."

The tombstone was thankfully saved from decay by relatives of the Frische family and is still preserved today.

At the south gable of the Behrenhof you can see a coat of arms stone with the house motto: What are you still worrying about, God is alive. Little else is known about Gerhard Frische. His great-grandfather Gerhard Frischen lived around 1585 and was a tax collector. His father Hinrich, who lived from 1627-1679, was also a tax collector. The Behrenhof is now privately owned.
