Windmill
Special wedding venue
The landmark of Achim...
There was already a trestle windmill on the scenic Geestrücken in 1651. The current gallery Dutch windmill was built in its place in 1761. It is 29 m high, has two storeys and a thatched tower. Each of the four wings is 11 m long. A wind rose was retrofitted in 1912 in order to be able to optimally adapt the grinding operation to the wind conditions. Later, an electric motor was installed. Until 1965, the "Dutchman" operated with two grinding gears and a roller mill. Then this mill also fell victim to the death of the mill - it was shut down. Since 1969, the mill has been open to the public on guided tours of the mill under the care of the "Verein zur Erhaltung der Achimer Windmühle e.V." and the town of Achim. This monument is considered a landmark of Achim. It offers an unobstructed view over the Wesermarsch. The focus of the tour is on the architecture, carpentry and working methods of the mill. On the 3rd floor of the mill, the Heimatverein Achim e.V. exhibits carpentry tools that are around 100 years old. From May-September, civil weddings can be held in the mill (information: Achim registry office, tel. 04202-9529-568).

A few meters away is the miller's house, where a firefight between Russian Cossacks and French infantrymen took place on Good Friday 1813.
