The "Westphalian Mill Route" cycle route connects around 40 windmills, water mills and horse mills.

The signposted mill route connects around 40 wind, water and horse mills and the only millable ship mill in Germany to form a unique "mill museum" on a circular route of around 300 km. Nowhere else in Germany is there such a large number of functioning mills of different designs. They represent a piece of the technical history of one of the oldest trades and at the same time offer a romantic look back at the time of our ancestors.

On largely low-traffic paths, the mill route leads through a varied cultural landscape with picturesque villages and lively towns, characterized by the Weser and Wiehengebirge mountains with the transition to the North German Plain and the Weser river. The mountain silhouette with the striking and well-known Porta Westfalica incision offers orientation aids in the landscape time and again, and the route itself is carefully marked with a colorful mill on a green background.

In addition to the main route with its alternative route (south or north of the Wiehengebirge), secondary routes have been set up that make it possible for cyclists to cycle only parts of this route, as the circular route always takes them back to the starting point. The best way to start is via the marked "Park & Bike Stations", which are equipped with an information board and rest facilities, but can also be used as a parking area for motor vehicles.

The Westphalian Mill Route can also be found at Komoot.
