The names of 116 fallen soldiers are listed on the 1928 memorial.

It was built by the Second Hanoverian Uhlan Regiment No. 14. This was stationed in the Verden Holzmarkt barracks from 1873-1886. "Uhlans" are a type of cavalry armed with lances.
