It is one of the most important architectural monuments in Verden. At the end of the 16th century, the building was used by the municipal syndic (legal advisor to the town). In 1736, the building underwent fundamental renovation and structural alterations. Further alterations followed in 1905. A representative stair tower from the Renaissance period has been preserved at the rear of the building.
The former mantelpiece is now in the "Domherrenhaus" museum.
The two guardian figures (today Carl-Hatzky-Weg/Ritterstraße) once stood in the garden of the Syndikatshof.
