It dates back to 1795 and was home to the lumberjacks of the state forest until around 1920. It was then occupied by the Neidler couple until 1977. In 1975, targeted attempts were made to preserve the "Green Hunter" in Darlaten. In order to save the building from decay and demolition, the Altes Amt Uchte tourist association took it into its care in 1977. The only historic building in Darlaten could no longer be saved. Renovation was out of the question for cost reasons. So the decision was made to build a new building, but on the old site. The official inauguration took place in 1992. Since then, the refuge on the road to Darlaten (with a parking lot and barbecue facilities) has been a popular starting point for hikes through the forest and moorland.
