Mainscher Heide

In the 1990s, as part of a land consolidation project, various measures were carried out to establish heather on former farmland, where there were still meagre remnants of the heather (Calluna vulgaris).

In recent years, the heather has established itself over a large area, along with other typical heather plants. In addition to the considerable enhancement in terms of nature conservation, the area has become more important for local recreation. One particular attraction is the sheepfold, which was built in 2009-2010 with a great deal of voluntary work. Walks during the heather blossom season with a break at the Fuchsberghütte are particularly recommended.
