Landwehr bei Hülsen

Archaeological site
Medieval border fortifications
To the south of Hülsen are the remains of a land defense, which is crossed by hollow ways. The construction of a land fortification was an effective measure to protect the population of a territory against attacks by neighbors and enemies in feuds, wars but also in times of peace and to clearly demarcate a legal district. The land defenses were also a means of limiting and thus preventing the effects of medieval warfare. They also prevented bands of robbers from entering the protected area and made it difficult for them to retreat after raids.
