ZDF produced 40 episodes, which were broadcast from 1977 to 1982. They revolved around stories of children from a fictitious place called "Uhlenbusch". Filming took place in several northern German communities, including the town of Rehburg-Loccum. Moritz Bleibtreu is still known today as one of the actors. Other actors included Hans-Peter Korff as letter carrier Uncle Heini (Heinrich Lüders), Trude Breitschopf as Grandma Piepenbrink, Uwe Dallmeier as farmer Brömmelkamp and Hildegard Wensch as Aunt Appelboom.
