Gipfelblick Kräher Höhe

Viewpoint
Nature experience trail/educational trail
Literally unique "view" from the Kräher Höhe
However, this is not a naturally grown mountain, but the former Nienburg/Krähe central landfill site. After landfill operations ceased, the approximately 6.5-hectare site was extensively recultivated by BAWN and transformed into a natural environment. The so-called landfill body is sealed on all sides so that the environment is not affected. Wild herbs have been established in some areas and the surface has been modeled in a near-natural way.

The entire area is accessible via a specially created 1.2-kilometre-long, publicly accessible hiking trail. Boards along the trail provide information about waste management in the district of Nienburg/Weser. A four-meter-high summit cross marks the highest point of the town. From the entire height of the ridge, there is a unique view over the Mittelweser valley. There is also a pavilion for visitors on the crest of the mountain.

In order to keep the vegetation short, a flock of sheep graze on the Kräher Höhe in the summer months. The area, which is integrated into the surrounding woodland, is used in particular by cyclists, Nordic walkers, school classes and walkers.
On behalf of BAWN, local artist Holger "Pablo" Hirndorf has created a sculpture that is intended to set a special accent on the Kräher Höhe: "Gipfelblick" in the form of a stylized eye emphasizes the connection between the sky and the Kräher Höhe through its vertical orientation. At the same time, the sculpture provides a unique "view through" in this form, which - as illustrated by the slightly lowered position of the iris - is not aimlessly directed into the distance: the viewer keeps the district town in view. Tip: Disc golf on the waste mound. There are several baskets available.
