Bastion Christian Ludwig (Weserwall)

PDF

Historical structure
The bastion was extended from 1654 by Duke Christian Ludwig von Braunschweig-Lüneburg.
A sandstone plaque with the initials "CL" and the year 1662 reminds us of this. The bastion survived the dismantling of the fortifications during the French occupation. Today, there are memorials to the fallen of several wars.

The former ramparts and fortifications around the historic old town are now a quiet zone and surround the city like a green belt. The ramparts include the Weserwall, the Auewall and the Stahnwall. A walk along the ramparts takes you past many interesting sights, e.g. the "Christian Ludwig" bastion, Stockturm tower, the Weser fisherman's house, the former "Hornwerk" bulwark (now the site of the theater), the bronze sculpture "Wiehernder Hengst" by Gerhard Marcks, the smoke house, the former "Kuhschanze" bastion.
