Eel skippers use their trawls to catch eels and other fish.

Schokker is a Dutch term for a fishing vessel with a swing-out boom. They were first used on the island of Schokland in the Zuiderzee. The booms on which the trawls are hung are lowered into the strongest current using a winch and raised again when there are enough fish in them. The fisherman takes a small boat to the barge. Other boats are warned of these standing obstacles by large signs and sail past them. Aalschokkers are also a beautiful photo motif.

The Aalschokkers are located on the Weser just north of the center of Drakenburg, near the property of the Dobberschütz fishing family. There is another Aaalschokker downstream.
