Directions

Station 1: Monument on the market square
Built at the end of the 1970s, the monument in the middle of the market square commemorates the fallen of the former Bruchhausen district in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. This war not only ended with a victory for the German troops, but also led to the founding of the German Empire in January 1871 and the proclamation of Kaiser Wilhelm I in Versailles. The route continues via the Schloßweide to Bruchhausen church.

Station 2: St. Bartholomew's Church in Bruchhausen
On Ascension Day 1901, the church in Bruchhausen was consecrated as the successor to the old Bruchhausen chapel. One of the bells was created in 1640 and was transferred from the chapel to the church in Broks. The tour now takes us to one of the historic towns of Bruchhausen-Vilsen. Our first port of call is the house of the 2nd district clerk of Bruchhausen. It later became the headquarters of the melioration cooperative. Signs on the building provide more information. A short stop and we are already at the third station. The plaque on the Amtshof shows us what it once looked like here.

Station 3: Amtshof
The Amtshof was the administrative seat of the Drosten and Amtmänner of the Amt Bruchhausen and is now privately owned. The courtyard grounds, driveway and park are available for an outdoor tour. The tour continues along the rear building to the main melioration canal. There we cross a narrow bridge on the eastern side to the small village of Stapelshorn. From there, the trail leads us through the Sellingsloh forest area to the Memsen stud farm and on to Riethausen. At the weekend, the farm café "De Kaffeestuv" serves delicious homemade cakes, tel. 04251 2592. We follow the signs towards Wöpse, where the first burial mound is located in the middle of the forest.

Station 4: Burial mounds
Shortly before reaching the district road from Asendorf to Bruchhausen-Vilsen, there is a burial mound in the forest on the left. With a diameter of 12 to 15 m and a height of 1 to 1.50 m, the mounds are still clearly visible. They date from the Bronze Age (up to 800 BC), and in some cases also from the early Iron Age (up to 450 BC). These graves are the oldest evidence of settlement in the Bruchhausen-Vilsen region. Continue towards the Heiligenberg recreation area to the Bruchmühlen watermill.

Station 5: Bruchmühlen watermill (1532)
The fully functional Bruchmühlen watermill also has an overshot water wheel, which is also used to generate electricity. There is a paper-making workshop on the first floor. Visits on request, Tel.: 04252 1883

Station 6: Heiligenberg Abbey Mill
The Heiligenberg Abbey Mill (1370)with an overshot water wheel and interesting - no longer functional - mill technology offers gastronomy, an exhibition on the first floor and art objects on the grounds. Registration under Tel.: 04252 2167

The route now leads through a hollow path to the restaurant and Hotel Forsthaus, where you can also stop for a bite to eat. Registration under Tel.: 04252 93200

Station 7: Forsthaus Heiligenberg
The Forsthaus Heiligenberg is located in the middle of a circular rampart complex on historical ground, as recent excavations have shown. Beautifully landscaped herb garden with wonderful views of the countryside. In the parking lot you will find a board with explanations about the rampart. In front of the rampart, you now head towards the adventure playground. Take a detour to this special playground and continue back to the monastery mill and from there towards Vilsen. Opposite the Vilsa Brunnnen administration building, the route crosses Brunnenstraße through the spa park.

Station 8: Bruchhausen-Vilsen spa park
The spa park with its old trees, heated forest swimming pool, mini golf station, intact fitness trail and terrain spa paths tempts you to go for a spin without your bike. Now the "journey through time" is coming to an end, and we ride from the spa park back to our starting point, where the tour can be concluded with a cool beer or a glass of water in the "Alter Bahnhof" restaurant, Tel.: 04252 913835.
