What the Red Thread is to Hanover, the Bear Trail is to Nienburg: no thick, red line, but large, white bear paws lead to 32 sights in Nienburg's old town. Representatives of the Nienburg/Weser district group of the Heimatbund Niedersachsen e.V. renew the trail every year: 500 paws are painted on the pavement along a 3.6-kilometre route.
The predator's prints were not chosen at random. Visitors walk in the footsteps of bears because a bear's paw is part of Nienburg's coat of arms. Mittelweser-Touristik GmbH has a brochure explaining the sights in more detail.
The start of the circular trail is the bronze relief of a bear's paw print at the Mittelweser-Touristik GmbH office, Lange Straße 18.Martin, the Fresenhof and the Posthof, the Quaet-Faslem House with the Asparagus Museum, the Police Museum and several Nienburg monuments. The Nienburg city model is also included. It shows the layout and development of the town in 1634. There are information boards along the trail that describe the sights in more detail.
The Nienburg Bear Trail was once developed by Theo Weinobst. The Heimatbund has acquired the rights.
