 The monument was completed by the residents of the village in 2014. It commemorates the 1150th anniversary of Altenbücken in 2010.

In 860, the village was first mentioned as "Bokkenhusen" in a text by Bremen's Archbishop Ansgar. 

About two kilometers away through the archway is the Hodenbergstein. This boulder stands on private land and is a reminder of the former Hodenberg fortress that was located there.
