An information sign and several large rocks stand in a sparse forest full of autumn leaves.

A stone seating area with a moss-covered tabletop and bench, surrounded by light-colored deciduous trees.

A wooden sign with a moss-covered roof informs visitors about the history and geography of Düsselburg.

The Düsselburg is an early medieval ring fortress, the remains of which are located near Rehburg.

The castle was first mentioned in the Colenberg document book in 1207 under the name "Dusleborch". The Düsselburg had the characteristics of a castle from Roman times, as well as those of a castle from the later Middle Ages. Its date should therefore be placed between these periods.

This was once the border between the Germanic tribes of the Cherusci in the south and the Angrivarians in the north. Düsselburg was destroyed by fire twice, in 772 and 783. The second destruction sealed the fortification's final demise. Today, only the ring wall and the name remind us that a castle stood here over 1000 years ago.
